On the Portentous Storming of the American Capitol Building.
I have been reading foolishness over the net about the foolishness in Washington DC for a few days. It is time for me to get back to writing and to try to write some sense about all this. As usual with this kind of thing, it is hard to know where to start.
First I should make clear where I am coming from. I am Canadian, living in Canada, white, and of a very working class background. I have never been in the USA in my life. My political views are very much with the Real Left and I will explain what I mean by that as I go.
The big problem with even the more objective commentary on these events is the lack of any grasp of the context in which they take place. Political violence will keep getting more intense in the Excited States of America, as the old collapses and the new is not ready to be born. The old curse; “May you live in exciting times” is upon the Americans.
I confidently predict that the duration of the Biden administration will see foreign political and military fiascos, a domestic economic collapse with the US dollar sharply devalued, and ever rising right wing agitation. After that, we will probably see a right wing government again, which will be just as incapable of solving American’s problems.
